Light-quark meson spectroscopy provides a powerful tool to study QCD in the non-perturbative sector. Crystal Barrel has developed a lively experimental activity over the last decade and different high-statistics results have been published which have led to stimulating theoretical interpretations. A selection of results concerning the quest of constituent gluons in hadrons will be discussed.
