One-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide: A frame for photonic integrated circuits

摘要
We propose a 1-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide structure with an air guiding-layer in the center and present its theoretical results. The waveguide exhibits guiding properties similar to those of conventional slab waveguides. In addition to an apparent advantage of low guiding loss due to the air guiding, this waveguide can be structurally combined with existing 2-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides to mimic a full 3-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide.
