The open-source software GRASS GIS was introduced as a geological database system for mines and quarries. This database system consists of three information sub-systems for geographical information, mining information, and grade distribution. By importing these files into GRASS GIS, a geological database is created that includes grade distributions and mining conditions. GRASS GIS is capable of analyzing various cases in the mine/quarry database system, e.g., evaluating the distribution of limestone purposes in mining areas and estimating grade distribution under the working face. This paper presents methods or processes to create mine/quarry databases using GRASS GIS first, after which some case studies are introduced for limestone quarries.
