In the first article in this series, which appeared in our January 1996 issue, naval architect Stephen Cottrill, from international law company Nabarro Nathanson, discussed the principal legal points relating to ownership in ship design and shipbuilding. This second article briefly outlines the UK law relating to confidentiality and know-how which includes the duty of confidence. Non-UK jurisdictions can have a very different approach to this area of law.
