Results of a three-year fungicide trial on cereals in Belgium - Strobilurines

During the last 3 years (1993 to 1995), applications of strobilurines (kresoxim-methyl and azoxystrobin) were carried out on winter-wheat and on winter-barley. These new fungicides show a very interesting range of efficacy in relation to susceptible diseases developing on leaves and ears of cereals and their action has had an important impact on yield levels. Tests put in place have allowed these new fungicides applied alone, combined or mixed, to be studied and compared to the fungicides used in a traditional manner such as the fungicides containing triazoles. Different stages of application were studied and trials have shown that these are generally envisaged for disease control in Belgium (stages 31 and/or 39 in winter-barley and stage 39 and/or 59 in winter-wheat), and are also suited to these new active substances. Belgian agricultural practices put an emphasis on a high N-fertiliser fraction at the last leaf stage. The application of these new fungicides appears the most interesting because of their efficacy and their remanence.
