摘要
Lightweight foamed concrete (LWFC) holds potential as construction material. It has superior thermal performance to normal weight concrete. Mechanical properties suitable for structural application have been achieved for LWFC in the density range 1200 to 1600 kg/m(3). A research program has been launched at Stellenbosch University to develop LWFC for precast medium-rise residential buildings in the region. Relatively low bond with reinforcing steel in LWFC, and durability concerns due to the porous microstructure are addressed in this paper. Materials development to increase fracture energy is reported, whereby it is postulated that bond stress will increase. Carbonation and chloride-induced corrosion results are reported.
