摘要
In Mexico, as in most countries, the areas of knowledge in reading, mathematics, and science are evaluated by national and international organizations. For the specific case of reading in both contexts, the results are very disappointing. From a global perspective, Mexico is in the last places, from a national perspective, less than 5% of students can make inferences and understand argumentative texts. The state of Tabasco, where the empirical research was carried out, is located in the last places only above two entities out of 32 that make up the country. Based on these results, the interest of the research arose. Its purpose was to identify the degree of reading ability, the degree of interest shown by the school, and their academic preparation, the students of the Telesecundaria subsystem of the School Zone no. 9. For this, a descriptive, non-experimental, and cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out among 112 students. One of the most significant findings was obtained by contrasting the students' answers in the questionnaire, with the reading skills test. The students who got more satisfactory scores supported their solutions well, considered themselves good or excellent students, and indicated that they had read at least one book, which gives them better writing and ease of written expression.
