Pathomorphology of drug-induced hepatopathy

Interaction between drugs and liver includes three groups of problems: 1) the metabolism of drugs in the liver; 2) damage of the liver by drugs (drug-induced hepatopathy); and 3) the influence of existing pathological liver changes on the metabolism of the drugs. The pathomorphological changes may be caused by drug-induced hepatic injury and are divided into cytotoxic changes (necrosis, lipid degeneration, inflammation), cholestatic changes (cholestasis, billiary cirrhosis) and cytotoxiccholestatic changes. These changes could be a cause of acute or chronic liver failure.
