Cloacal exstrophy misdiagnosed as bladder exstrophy

Cloacal exstrophy (CE) is the most serious and complex congenital ventral abdominal wall defect. It has also been reported as one of the rarest congenital anomalies. A 9-month-old boy suffering from bladder exstrophy due to the presence of a lower anterior abdomen wall defect that drains urine was referred to a paediatric surgery outpatient clinic. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a small urinary bladder connected to the rectum, and there is a fistula connected from the urinary bladder to the anterior abdominal wall, which was previously misinterpreted as a ureteral orifice in the abdominal wall. CE presented a wide range of pictures that varied from case to case. We reported the case referred to our hospital as a misdiagnosis of bladder exstrophy.
