摘要：
An estimator of population mean for the study character using call backs, subsampling from non-respondents at second attempt and auxiliary character has been proposed. The optimum values of fraction of the first call back (k) and fraction of the non-respondents of the call backs (w) for the fixed cost has been obtained. In the case of fixed cost, the proposed estimator is found to be more efficient than the estimators proposed by Hansen and Hurwitz (J Am Stat Assoc 41:517-529, 1946) and El-Badry (J Am Stat Assoc 51:209-227, 1956). The study shows the importance of using the method of call backs, subsampling from non-respondents and use of auxiliary character at a time while conducting a mail survey in increasing the efficiency of the proposed estimator.
