摘要
Fault Current Limiter (FCL) plays a vital role in power systems. Different power system components may be damaged due to the fault current and also it may endanger the integrity of power system. The FCL, a passive nature device, suppresses the fault current and improves the transient stability of the power system. The main objective of this paper is to develop the model of FCL in MATLAB/Simulink to test different conductors whether those can be used as FCL or not. In this model, different material properties (e.g. temperature coefficient of resistance, operating temperature and heat capacity) are considered to calculate operating temperature and resistance of FCL. The developed FCL model has been connected in a threephase system and its impact on the system is studied. PTC-4500 has been used as FCL material. This paper presents how effectively a resistive type FCL can reduce the fault current.
