摘要：
The hitherto-unpublicised process of conditioning of fluidised beds is discussed and its influence illustrated. A theory, based on contamination of the bed material by oxides, is proposed to explain this aspect of fluidised-bed operation. Supporting evidence, and methods of reducing the problem, are presented.
