摘要:
This study is based on a critical interpretation of face and politeness theories that are mainly constructed at the linguistic level, neglecting the communicators' nonverbal behaviors. Taking the communicative functions of body language as the theoretical foundation, and using data collected from English films, the author analyzes when body language substitutes verbal information, and how the face-saving/threatening effects inherent to speeches are strengthened, or mitigated.
