Saddle connections and heteroclinic orbits for standard maps

摘要：

We consider a family of standard maps that have saddle connections. After perturbation, we give sufficient conditions for these connections to break up into transversal heteroclinic connections. We use a generalization of the Melnikov method for twist maps in any number of dimensions. We give some concrete examples of how these methods are applied.
