Two simple, sensitive and reproducible spectrophotometric methods (Method A and Method B) are developed for the determination of lercanidipine in bulk and in pharmaceutical formulations. These methods are based on the formation of coloured species on treatment of reduced lercanidipine with nitrous acid followed by coupling with ammonium sulphamate and naphthylamine (Method A) and treatment of reduced lercanidipine with ferric nitrate under acidic conditions (Method B). Results of analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies. These methods are successfully employed for the determination of lercanidipine (LCD) in various pharmaceutical preparations.
