摘要
Partial discharge is a useful diagnostic method for a wide range of power apparatus. In the case of XLPE cable, partial discharge can detect various insulation defects, for example workmanship-induced defects, as well as cavities and electrical trees in the dielectric. When a PD pulse propagates trough a cable, caused by the attenuation, the waveform of PD pulse is changed. For a PD measurement, it is critical to know what happens when a PD pulse propagates through a cable, therefore this paper give a direction that the shape and the amplitude of PD pulse changes during its propagation, in particular high frequency content of a PD pulse is attenuated relatively fast, and compared with the cable without joint, when PD pulse propagates through a joint, the amplitude will decay very seriously.
