Green Wireless Networks: A Radio Resource Management Perspective

Increasing attention and effort has recently been invested in reducing the energy requirements of wireless communication networks. Such increase is readily justified by the reduction of non-renewable resources, in addition to continuously expanding popularity of wireless data traffic, especially high fidelity transfers. The intent of this paper is to offer a perspective on green wireless networks from the point of view of Radio Resource Management (RRM) design. This paper reviews basic preliminaries prior to detailing the essential RRM challenge how to best allocate the available resource. It then expands on such considerations in view of the search for "green" answer. In doing so, the paper highlights the limitations and trade-offs affecting design efficiency, and concludes with identifying critical concerns in the methods used for validating energy reduction proposals.
