In recent years, the potential of half-Heusler phases as thermoelectric materials has been investigated by many groups. The large power factor values observed in these materials suggest the potential for use in high temperature power generation. Yet, the high thermal conductivity found in these materials result in values for the thermoelectric efficiency, which does not exceed the industry standard set by n-type SiGe at high temperatures. Recent approaches have provided new impetus for re-evaluating the figure-of-merit of thermally stable multicomponent half-Heusler phases measured above 700 degrees C. There exists the prospect of achieving ZT >= 1.
