摘要
In this paper, a compact spiral antenna on a progressive Electronic Band Gap (EBG) based cavity structure is proposed. Instead using quarter wavelength absorber loaded cavity, progressive EBG structure provides high impedance surface over wideband and low loss radiation characteristics. It has a wide bandwidth performance due to constructive interference of the ground plane with the antenna, which is a unique feature. This makes the antenna compact. In this configuration, the depth of the cavity is chosen 6.2 mm, 0.1.5GHz at lowest operating frequency. The total height of the antenna with balun is 13.7 mm. The antenna was studied and optimized through extensive simulations using CST microwave studio software. The proposed antenna achieved a 3.6:1 bandwidth over 5-18GHz with <2dB axial ratio. This compact spiral antenna has applications in ultra-wideband conformal platforms.
