Use and misuse of benzodiazepines in the elderly

摘要：
Benzodiazepines have good efficacy with poor toxicity and lethality, but with some significant side effects. Elderly people are particularly vulnerable to these side effects such as increased risk of falls and hip fractures, cognitive impairment, increased risk of acute confusional states. Use of benzodiazepines has to be careful in the elderly, and the opportunity of treatment's discontinuation has to be considered in case of chronic consumption or significant side effect.
