To improve the microstructure stability at temperatures over 700 degrees C and avoid segregation of Nb, we modified the chemical composition of Alloy 706. The modified alloy (FENIX-700) contains lower Nb and higher Al than Alloy 706, is designed as a gamma' (Ni3Al) strengthened alloy without gamma" (Ni3Nb), delta and eta phases using the CALPHAD method. With this modification, the creep temperature capability has improved from 650 degrees C to 700 degrees C or more. The segregation property was also improved. Trial manufacturing of a 760mm phi) forging shaft using a triple melt process and trial melting of a 1050mm ESR ingot were performed using FENIX-700. In this presentation, the results of these trials will be shown and the alloy design of Ni-base welding materials for the welding type rotor (FENIX-700/12%Cr Ferritic Steel) for a 700 degrees C class steam turbine using the CALPHAD method will be also shown.
