Drug-resistant parasites in the digestive tract are becoming more and more of a serious problem in domestic animal breeding. Cyathostominae is the main drug-resistant parasite in horses. These nematodes (over 40 species) have become resistant not only to benzimidazole preparations but also to pyrantel which has been successfully applied until now. The discovery of the drug-resistance of small strongyles to these preparations and the possibility of cross-resistance and multiple resistance occuring denotes the necessity periodically control the antihelminthic agents applied within a particular area.
