Scatterers in lithium tetraborate single crystals

摘要
The scatterers observed in the Li2B4O7 crystals grown in the optically useful direction showed Mie scattering. The polarization mode of the scattering light depends on the relative configuration of the incident beam and the crystal direction. The scattering sources were proven to be sub-micron bubbles which can be attributed to water in the melt. The scattering-free Li2B4O7 crystals 2 " in diameter and 70 mm in length were successfully grown in dry air. The formation mechanism of bubbles was discussed.
