摘要
As an alternative fuel, diesel-water emulsions have the potential to significantly reduce the formation of NOx, soot, hydrocarbons and particulate matter of the diesel engine emissions. These emissions are one of the most important sources of environmental pollution. The addition of water in the fuel can reduce both NOx and particulate matter emissions. By modifying fuel it can be obtained a simple way of controlling engine emissions as many researchers have reported in literature. The reduction of NOx is originated from the reduction of local high temperature, which is the active source of NOx formation. A DEUTZ TCD 2012 agricultural engine with 4-cylinder in line, 4-strokes-charged direct injection was used in this study. The water is added into the fuel using a patented emulsifying system. No additives or emulsifiers were used. The results showed that in comparison with the diesel fuel, the emulsified fuel causes NOx emissions to drop up to 66%. A lower O-2 percentage was also observed due to the result of a better burning process.
