Low dose measurements in a routine personal dosimetry service

Tecnorad set up a complete series of tests for both TLD and film dosimetry to verify the ability of its dosimetry service to meet the requirements stated in ICRP 60 and in the Italian Legislative Decree 230/95 of 1 mSv.y(-1) for the public and for persons not exposed to radiation in their workplace. The service uses GR-200A LiF:Mg,Cu,P TLDs and Kodak Type 2 film dosemeters packed in proprietary badges. The measurements of low doses, comparable with the background value, have been carried out during several wearing periods in the past year (1997) the results of which are presented. Values of L-D (detection limit) less than 20 mu Sv (TLD system) and less than 80 mu Sv (film dosemeter system) have been determined. The requirement of a personal dosimetry system able to measure down to 80 mu Sv per month, also with high energy photon radiations, is fulfilled for both TLD and film methods.
