LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS FOR COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENTS

Teaching and learning are activities which evolve around the fact of sharing knowledge. As such, they can take advantage of the new Web-based technologies so remote and organized transfer of information among arbitrarily large communities is fast and easy. A number of open source e-learning platforms for producing Internet-based courses and environments have become available in the Web. Thanks to them, it is extremely easy to set up personalized sites adapted to the specific requirements of each scenario, from simple support for live classes in a teacher's Web site to complete virtual University campuses. In this way the objective of this paper is to provide a detailed list of the most popular open source e-learning platforms aimed to enhance the educative process in collaborative environments.
