Low latency traffic interval shaping algorithm for traffic access control

摘要
Traffic burstiness may impose network congestion. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a shaping algorithm for traffic access control, called Interval filter shaping algorithm (IFSA). Based on filtering theory, IFSA smoothes the packet inter-arrival time to reduce burstiness at the expense of the increased packet delay time. The reduction of burstiness and packet mean delay time of IFSA are presented according to analyses and simulation. Combined with the Leak bucket (LB) algorithm, a simulation is also done in this paper to show the impact of IFSA on network performance. The result shows that the cell loss probability of LB is significantly reduced with a very low latency.
