摘要
Salt transport defects in CF lungs predispose to overwhelming and fatal respiratory infection caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Motility of this organism is central to pathogenesis in a number of settings. Incubation of numerous strains of P. aeruginosa with hypertonic saline caused a concentration-dependent decrease in bacterial motility. Reduction of P. aeruginosa virulence through this effect may contribute to clinical efficacy of hypertonic saline aerosols in CF patients. (C) 2007 European Cystic Fibrosis Society.
