THE CAPACITY MANAGEMENT IN CORPORATE AND OPERATIONS STRATEGY AS A PROCESS OF COPING WITH MISMATCHES BETWEEN SUPPLY AND DEMAND

摘要
An effective Capacity management in Operations strategy is an essential pre-requisite for successful activity of an enterprise. The aim of the research is to identify tendencies in the sphere of The Capacity management in Corporate and Operations strategy of the present business activity in Latvia. Hundreds of working executives and specialists from different business spheres of Latvia are presently studying at RISEBA on Business administration, MBA and professional Bachelor's programmes. Within the framework of Management and Operations Management subjects alongside with theoretical studies they compile practical reviews of the existing situation in management of the particular enterprise of their employment. Process design-positioning in Operations strategy include answers on following questions: Do enterprises' processes match volume and variety requirements? Whether the layout of the process is appropriate? Do the type of technology that is used in the process is relevant? Does the job design reflect volume and variety? Answers on these questions will make sure that the capacity at various stages of the production process, and the arrangement of tasks is appropriate. Last years has shown the increased interest of the enterprises in the sphere of systematic Corporate and Operations strategy development. This can be justified by unfavourable changes on the Latvian labour market as a result of European Union accession. Processing of the practical researches and reviews has allowed to identify major tendencies characteristic of Latvian enterprises as well as main reasons of ineffective management of Operations executives. Generally, capacity will need to be adjusted or flexed over time as demand varies. This research allows us to analyze some aspects in structural trends in operation and capacity management strategies at Latvian Enterprises, to tackle a number of detailed process decisions that will make sure that the capacity at various stages of the process and the arrangement of tasks is appropriate. This research also allows us to understand how reducing variability can help to achieve both fast process throughput and high resource utilization.
