摘要
The FAIR project for charged-particle accelerators and storage rings involved the acceleration and storage of ion beams with a wide range of parameters. The duration of the current pulse of the accelerated particles needed to be changed in the course of acceleration from ten nanoseconds to several microseconds. It was necessary to ensure constant nondestructive monitoring of the beam parameters with time resolution corresponding to the pulse duration and a capability for data accumulation the course of the entire acceleration cycle. The newest charge-particle accelerators, including FAIR presupposed that the widest possible application of the particle beams generated even at the design stage. The FAIR substantiation also stipulated the requirement of increasing the beam intensity, average beam power, qualitative indicators such as the characteristic beam size in phase space and energy spread.
