2-Substituted benzimidazoles have been synthesized in excellent yields in a single pot under solvent-free conditions from o-phenylenediamine and aldehydes in the presence of a catalytic amount of In(OTf)(3) at room temperature. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
