Kinetics of alkaline hexacyanoferrate (III) oxidation of aldehydes and thio-compounds in presence of Pd (II)

摘要
The kinetics of oxidation of aldehydes (formaldehyde and acetaldehyde) and thio-compounds (thiourea and thioacetamide) by alkaline hexacyanoferrate (III) has been studied in presence of PdCl2 as catalyst. A strong catalytic influence of palladium (II) on the rate of oxidation has been observed in case of formaldehyde and thio-compounds. While no effect of palladium (II) on the rate of oxidation of acetaldehyde has been observed. The order of reaction in Fe(CN)(6)(3-) is always found to be unity. The order in [substrate] and [OH-] falls from unity at higher [substrate] and [OH-] respectively in case of formaldehyde and thio-compounds. A suitable mechanism is proposed and discussed.
