Distances to selected variable white dwarf stars

摘要：
We introduce the DAV class of pulsating white dwarf stars as a standard candle. We justify this claim by examining the parallaxes of a number of nearby DAVs, then extend the scale to fainter DAVs discovered in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.
