Ruyer and The Great Chain of Being It is easy to locate in Ruyer's thought the reactivation of an old philosophical idea, that of the "Great Chain of Being", which had been masterfully studied by Arthur Lovejoy. We study here how a few contemporary scientific facts, both in physics and biology, as well as Ruyer's thought on rational theology, came to justify its revival.
