摘要
The fate and transport of contaminants in soil is briefly discussed. It is shown that the physical and chemical properties of soil and the contaminant affect the direction and rate of both biotic and abiotic processes taking place in the subsurface. The terms "bioavailability" and "ageing" (or "weathering)" are briefly explained and the concept of natural attenuation is defined.
