Dual Conformal Strip fed Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Circular Polarization

In many circularly polarized (CP) antennas, frequency mismatching occurs between impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidth due to which antenna can't utilized its full bandwidth. In this paper, a conformal strip fed cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) with modified Wilkinson power divider is investigated to overcome the frequency mismatching problem. By connecting one new strip line in the middle of the original Wilkinson power divider, the entire AR pass band falls within the impedance pass band. This external strip increases the vertical bar S-11 vertical bar bandwidth from 20.61% to 30.39% as well as shifting its frequency range in the range of the AR bandwidth so that the whole range of the AR bandwidth becomes usable. The proposed antenna provides measured vertical bar S-11 vertical bar and 3-dB AR bandwidth of 30.97% and 10%, respectively.
