摘要
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the risk factors such as personality disorders, psychosocial stresses and the relationship between these factors along with some sociodemographic variables and personality in suicide attempters. Methods: Between January and May 2005, SCID-II, Suicide Intention Scale, Suicide Ideation Scale was applied to 50 patients who attented to the Emergency Department or other medical departments of Turgut Ozal Medical Center with suicide attempt and was on follow up either in or outpatient setting, and agreed to participate in the study. Results: The rate of patients fitting the personality disorder criteria due to SCID-II scale was 90%. Of these patients, 66% had borderline personality disorder, 56% had obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, and 42% had paranoid and passive-agressive personality disorders. These cases were fit for multiple personality disorder criteria. Antisocial and dependent personality disorders were more common in male patients. Conclusion: It is esential to recognize and treat the personality disorders with a predisposition to suicide; especially those with a higher risk must take a greater attention.
