Experimental data about knowledge evaluation in a distance learning system

Distance education has became especially popular topic in recent years mostly due to the powerful web-based educational services offered by the universities as well as the comfort of learning at home. In this paper we present an algorithm for testing and knowledge evaluation of the users in a web based distance educational system. The algorithm employs fuzzy logic techniques thus offering linguistic expression of the estimated level of the user's knowledge. A prototype of the system is built in Java language. The experimental results expose compatibility in the evaluated expert levels given by the system and the tutor, but also emphasize the benefits of the system from the pedagogical point of view.
