摘要
With the development of social economy in China, Chinese aviation transportation is developed rapidly, and the difficulty of the airport management is also aggrandized. Especially, very large depository of documents such as, the height or structural information of each pavement concrete slab, constitute a major challenge in terms of their efficient processing and retrieval when needed. Thus, productivity tools based on information technology appear to be natural solutions to efficiently deal with this kind of very large databases. Realizing these requirements, the authors built up a set of airport Information management system using geographic information system (GIS) for Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PDAIMS). Most of the traditional management systems are pure database management system. It is difficult to interpret and visualize the information stored in system. By integrating GIS into AIMS, the management function of PDAIMS is improved greatly. With GIS, precise location information for investigation or maintenance activities can be easily acquired. Moreover, all maintenance activities will be able to be identified, tracked and analyzed for each pavement slab. PDAIMS ensures effective management and retrieval of requested documents from very large digital document database. Firstly this paper describes the motivation that stimulates researchers to introduce GIS into AIMS. Secondly, this paper details the framework of this system. The special management model, which is related to the airport pavement, will be also introduced in this section. Thirdly, how to build a GIS platform using digital map and GIS tools, and how to build and manage PDAIMS are emphasized on. Moreover, how to connect seamlessly GIS with the AIMS is discussed in this section. Fourthly, important issues such as integration GIS software (Mapobjects) with other software tools such as MS Access Databases, Visual Basic are also discussed. Finally, this paper introduces the main function of GIS in PDAIMS.
