Ozonolysis of ethylene-propylene terpolymer in solution

摘要
It was shown that an ethylene-propylene terpolymer (EPDM) synthesized using dicyclopentadiene undergoes ozonolysis in hexane to yield a gel that is stable to many aggressive media. The ozonolysis of EPDM in hexane in the presence of pyridine does not allow one to prevent the formation of intermolecular crosslinks. When the ozonolysis is carried out in the presence of such catchers of carbonyl oxides as ethyl alcohol and acetone, the intrinsic viscosity of rubber solutions remains unchanged. Ozonized rubbers containing 1,2,4-trioxolane units are more stable to subsequent ozonolysis compared to the corresponding polymers bearing alkoxyhydroperoxide moieties.
