Curing studies on epoxy resin with phosphorylated amine

Mechanical properties of an epoxy resin system (neat resin castings) based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) cured with different amounts of phosphorous based amine, tris(3-aminophenyl) phosphine oxide (TAP) are reported. Influence of stoichiometric imbalance on the thermoelastic properties of the epoxy-amine system is also discussed. Testing of dynamic mechanical properties has been done using Rheovibron DDV-III-EA from ambient temperature to 250 degrees C. The results show that variation in stoichiometry can affect material properties such as modulus (E-m) and glass transition temperature (T-g). Various parameters, viz. molecular weight between crosslinks (M-c), apparent front factor (phi(a)) and crosslink density (rho(c)) have been calculated for all the compositions. Also, the effect of thermal and boiling water ageing on material properties for 100 h are reported.
