摘要
This article discusses the relationship between urban skyline and fractal dimension. At first, it briefly reviewed the recent researches of urban skyline and introduced the basic knowledge of fractal geometry. Then, it selected a typical waterfront urban skyline photo each of Boston, Sydney, and Chicago and extracted their urban skylines. The fractal dimension (box-counting dimension) of each urban skyline was calculated by the software Fractal fox based on the fractal geometry theory. The calculated results were compared and analyzed at the end and they show that the value of the skyline's box-counting dimension is positively related to the understanding of the complexity of skyline in vision. It further concludes that fractal dimension could be an effective tool for quantitative analysis of urban skyline.
