CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES: INFINITE HORIZONS ENCOUNTERS IN THE PLACE OF SHADOWS

Examining the nature of the character throughout the history of theater poses problems relating to identity, presence, and the referent. The existence of the character is denied by some theorists, whose critical approaches even question the pertinence of dramaturgical settings and reject the theatrical text for being a retrograde component. This article considers this problematic from the perspective of avant-garde writing and theoretical research on the limits of theatrical expression. (RHG)
