摘要
Ovarian stimulation is one of the most important stages in assisted reproduction. The first attempts at stimulation with gonadotropins and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists were costly and relatively unsuccessful with many cases of overstimulation. Only the introduction of GnRH antagonists resulted in important progress. The advantages are a shorter duration of treatment and a simplified treatment with less side effects (overstimulation syndrome). In addition, the live birth rate is comparable with that of earlier antagonist protocols. Novel stimulation protocols could be developed with the important possibility to avoid overstimulation (oocyte freezing). In Germany and Europe approximately 70% of the patients are stimulated with the gonadotropins/antagonists protocol.
