Development of Industry-Specific Metrics for Benchmarking Pharmaceutical Construction Project Performance

摘要
The pharmaceutical industry is unique in its procedures and methods of manufacture, and thus requires a distinct project management approach. With the consideration of specific facility delivery processes of the industry this paper aims to develop industry-specific metrics for evaluating pharmaceutical construction project performance. First, a hierarchical structure of pharmaceutical project types is developed as a framework enabling pharmaceutical projects to be properly grouped and compared. Within the framework, industry-specific metrics tuned to the processes of pharmaceutical construction projects are produced Then, collected data are analyzed and industry experts are surveyed in order to validate if the framework and metrics are applicable to performance measurement of the industry. By employing these metrics, the industry can find solutions to more effectively manage cost, schedule, and other resources for the delivery of pharmaceutical construction projects.
