Anti-amyloid-beta vaccination to fight Alzheimer disease is a promising therapeutic option. Following early clinical trials of the vaccine candidate that were halted because of the serious side effect of meningoencephalitis further trials have shown promising results. A patient who died following immunotherapy whose condition did not improve in response to the treatment, a postmortem examination of her brain showed that it contained fewer amyloid plaques than would be expected for a person at this stage of the disease.
