FRP deck system used for the Columbus bridge in Ohio

摘要
Corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete decks has prompted researchers to look for a noncorrosive material such as Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers (GFRP) for bridge decks. In 1988/1999 (1,2) South Dakota School of Mines & Technology has developed a deck system using GFRP tubes filled with concrete and prestressed in the longitudinal & the transverse directions. This paper deals with the testing and development of this system including prototyping of a deck of 3m by 3m. This paper also provides information on the construction of a bridge deck using this technology in Columbus, Ohio.
