Dielectric properties of BaTiO3-based ceramics with gradient compositions

Gradient Ba1-xSrxTiO3 (BST) ceramics, which had a continuously varying composition from one surface to the other in a single body, were examined with respect to dielectric property. They were prepared by sintering piles of layered green compacts of BST solid solutions with different values of x. The electric permittivity ( epsilon ) of single-phase BST ceramics showed a peak at each Tc, which shifted to lower temperatures with increasing x. On the other hand, a profile of epsilon vs temperature (T) of gradient BST ceramics gave a linear characteristic.
