Estimation of bare surface soil moisture with L-band multi-polarization radar measurements

摘要
This study demonstrates the capability of estimating soil moisture using multi-polarization L-band backscattering coefficients. It shows an algorithm development for estimation of bare surface soil moisture and roughness. It is found that the surface rms height can be estimated quite well with only copolarized backscattering signals. For estimation of the surface dielectric properties, the accuracy can be. significantly improved by using all three polarization signals.
