Framework of Dynamic Daily 4D BIM for Tracking Construction Progress through a Web Environment

摘要
Four-dimensional (4D) building information modeling (BIM) - 3D BIM plus time - is used in various aspects of construction project management, including construction planning, constructability review, communications with clients, and collaborations among project participants. An emerging area of 4D BIM in the current practice is progress control, whereby 4D BIM models are manually updated to capture the construction progress as project proceeds. This paper presents a Web-based framework that harnesses information from daily reports to update the 4D BIM models and visualize the project progress. Leveraging the advancements in the Web and database technologies, the newly developed approach automates the updating and visualization process. A prototype system was developed and validated using the project schedule and BIM models from a real construction project.
